Prologue
Having just crossed over, she had not yet grasped the situation around her, and she did not dare to speak. If she were to mimic the famous line of other travelers, saying, "Where is this? Who are you? Oh dear, I have lost my memory..." she would surely feel nauseated.
Heaven have mercy, she is neither a student of history nor has any research in archaeology, her classical Chinese level is just passable, and her chemistry and physics are utterly poor, while most of her major in English and American literature has already been returned to the teacher. Her English, which could be considered a strength, is of little use in this era. Is she expected to drag the modern English of the 21st century along with the missionaries of the Qing Dynasty? Good heavens, Shakespeare might not even be dead yet!
Liu Xixi looked up at the ceiling once more; the ancient and elegant wooden beam structure, imbued with the fragrance of books, told her that this was not a dream; she had truly traveled through time
She was originally an undergraduate majoring in English and American literature. After graduating from university, she worked at a translation company for over a year. Unable to endure the heavy work pressure, she resigned and returned home to take freelance jobs, becoming part of the SOHO community. Although she did not earn much money, she could at least support herself and had a little surplus. In her leisure time, she preferred not to go out; apart from watching television, she spent her time online reading novels and posting comments. In short, she was the epitome of the trendy homebody. She thought that the now clichéd concept of time travel in novels would never become a reality, but unexpectedly, she experienced it herself by sheer luck.
What was even more difficult for her to accept was that, judging by the attire of the several women swaying around her and the books, this era was during the Qing Dynasty! She actually became a character in a Qing Dynasty time-travel story. Having stopped reading such stories two years ago, how could she endure this blow?
Fortunately, she soon realized that she was worrying unnecessarily, as her current body was that of a little girl just over one year old. Even if she could speak, she would likely only be able to say a few words, and her pronunciation would not be very accurate. This eased her anxiety about revealing her true identity when she heard the accents of those around her, which were somewhat different from modern Mandarin. Moreover, it was said that the previous owner of this body had fallen into water and was frightened, leading to her unconscious state. Therefore, it was quite normal for her to be a bit dazed and not speak. Once she figured out what time it was, who the people around her were, and what had happened, she could then consider her future life more thoroughly.
